In December 2025, the Te Rimutahi Christmas Market transformed Te Rimutahi, one of Ponsonby’s newest urban spaces, into a vibrant celebration of ethical and local retail. Having opened the year prior, the venue’s covered canopy, gardens and open walkways proved to be a natural setting for a community gathering with purpose.

The kaupapa behind the market was simple but distinctive. It was not only about supporting local retailers, but also about championing businesses committed to ethical production, conscious sourcing and responsible practice. Bringing those two values together created a Christmas market that felt thoughtful, community-driven and aligned with Ponsonby’s creative character.

Creative stallholders, unique gift makers and live performers drew strong support from locals throughout the day. Bathed in summer sunshine, the space was filled with conversation, connection and genuine neighbourhood energy.

Featured in Ponsonby News, the market was recognised as a resident-led initiative bringing ethical and local retail together at Christmas. It was the first community market held in the space and helped establish Te Rimutahi as a natural home for future gatherings.
